Helmet Auction

Autographed impact helmet to be auctioned for fire relief

A brand new Impact Racing “Vapor” helmet, signed by all seventy drivers competing in the November 8 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, will be auctioned-off with all proceeds earmarked for the American Red Cross Fire Relief Fund.

“Bill Simpson sent us this helmet, and told us to do what ever we wanted to with it … See if we couldn't raise a few dollars with it for the Red Cross. Bill's originally from southern California and he's been watching the fires on television news in Indianapolis,” said Irwindale GM Bob DeFazio. “We'll get it signed and put it on auction on Saturday, I think that some fan will really want this unique NASCAR keepsake.”

The new Vapor has been designed and constructed using state-of-the-art computer modeling and high-strength, low-weight composite materials. Lighter and stronger than anything on the market, this American-made helmet incorporates the knowledge gained from Simpson's 45 years in the safety equipment field.

“We'll start the bidding at seven hundred and forty nine dollars (the list price of the unsigned helmet), we expect that it will go for considerably more than that,” added DeFazio. The special helmet will be on display at the track prior to the auction (fans seriously interested in bidding on the helmet should try to contact Director of Communications Doug Stokes at the Speedway 626-358-1100 x 206).
