Honda And KTM Are Participating In The AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship

According to AMA Pro Racing associate director of commercial development, Chris Bradley this program distinguishes the AMA Supermoto Championship from other supermoto races and events. “Racers participating in the AMA Red Bull Championship can earn significant money over the course of the season,” said Bradley. “For example, both Honda and KTM have posted up to $5,000 for a win and a winner using Dunlop Tires in the Supermoto class is eligible for a $1,000 per-win payout as well as a $10,000 championship bonus.

Additionally, there are postings available from a growing list of companies that, cumulatively, can add up to a significant pay-day for racers. This impressive industry support is indicative of the value associated with this championship.”

In addition to ongoing bonus awards, there’s also a $25,000 AMA Red Bull Supermoto year-end championship point fund that will be awarded to the top 15 Supermoto class teams based on points earned throughout the season.

The list of companies participating in the Bonus Awards Program continues to grow. Currently, the following companies are involved: Arai Helmets, Honda Motorcycles, Bridgestone Tires, KTM Motorcycles, Carbone Lorraine Brake Pads, Maxxis Tires, Dunlop Tires, Muzzy’s Performance Products, EBC Brakes, Troy Lee Designs.

Bradley stated that industry support of the AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship was immediate. “We anticipated some companies would take a ‘wait and see’ attitude in terms of supporting AMA Supermoto so we welcome those who jumped in with support immediately,” confirmed Bradley. “Not surprisingly, the companies that have proactively supported the championship have seen the most benefit. For example at the opening round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, 53% of the motorcycles in the Supermoto Class main event were Honda and 60% of the motorcycles in the Unlimited Class main event were KTM.

These are the companies that have stepped up and offered generous bonus awards and riders are responding by competing on their products.” Bradley added that additional companies have expressed interest in participating in the Bonus Awards Program and AMA Pro Racing expects they’ll be added soon.

The AMA Red Bull Supermoto Championship launched at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on July 11-13. The six-race series will conclude in Las Vegas on November 21. The second round of the series is set for August 30 at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va. The championship finale will be held in conjunction with the annual AMA Pro Racing Awards Banquet.
